Only seven types of wild horse remain, and most of these are threatened and classified as Endangered or Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Most of the endangered wild horses live in desert or savanna ecosystems. These special places are filled with plants and animals that have unique survival strategies. Plant and animal are dependant on each other There are not a lot of options for these living things if something they depend on is destroyed. One way to think of it is they are all puzzle pieces that make one big picture, or ecosystem. Scientists are studying the many pieces of this problem so they can keep the big picture together.
